Strengthened the strategic position of the group in the Electronic Media Market and made the highly deficit operations profitable within five years:

  • Widened the groups TV engagements into the fields of Electronic News Gathering (teuto TELE) and Entertainment Production (D&D Entertainment Group) improving vertical integration and streamlining operations.
  • Founded a $250 M joint-venture with Bertelsmann AG (BW TV) increasing the companies stake in RTL Television to 50,1%
  • Instituted BW TV as a 50% shareholder in CLT/UFA and merged Westfilm and teuto TELE into this new venture (WAZ-stake valued at $550 M) resulting in a significant gain of influence on the European Free, Pay- and Interactive-TV-Market for the WAZ-Group.

  • Created a regional online-service for the Rhineland-area (Cityweb) outperforming all other online-services in this area in terms of members within the first 18 months.
  • Merged Cityweb successfully into a $30 M venture with Axel Springer AG and Bertelsmann (Cityweb Network) extending its activities to other major cities.

BROADCASTING
(1990 — 1998)
Radio NRW (Member of the Board of Directors, 1990-1998)
Pressefunk Nordrhein-Westfalen (Chairman of the Board of Directors, 1993-1998)

  • Formed a corporation (Radio NRW) aimed to produce a state-wide skeleton-broadcast and execute the national ad-selling .
  • Successfully finalized agreements between Radio NRW and all of the 46 local broadcasting stations
