Jonathan Halls, United Kingdom
Manager Skills Training BBC New Media Innovation and Learning
Sessions:
Speaker at workshop
Writing for Multimedia
Abstract:
Jonathan Halls says the best new-media writers are led by values rather than rules.
In this workshop he'll explore three values essential for good media writing and examine the unique characteristics of the web medium. The three values are audience, purpose and strategy.
Building on these values and drawing on participants' understanding of the web medium and its attributes, he'll show you show how this knowledge should influence web writing practice.
He'll also help you think about developing your own "value-based" guides to better focus your content on your audience and suggest ways to critique some of the emerging "rules" of web writing.
Offering practical tips for better web-writing, this workshop will be presented in an interactive style and participants will be encouraged to share their experiences in web writing and discuss their own web sites.
