Gerd Leonhard (40) is the Founder, President and CEO of LicenseMusic.com, a leading web-based music company providing high quality repertoire to professionals working in the film, television, advertising, interactive and audio-visual industries worldwide. Prior to founding LicenseMusic.com, Gerd owned and operated Music Workz, an event production and music consulting company in Germany, working with MTV / VH-1, MIDEM, London Music Week, Canadian Music Week, MY-CD, Audiosoft, MCY Music and various directorates of the European Commission in Brussels, Germany. Gerd also served as Executive Producer of the critically acclaimed European talent-search event, EuroPopDays for 2 years. Prior to EuroPopDays, he was Co-Director of Europe's first Contemporary Music University and served as an expert advisor to the European Commission on employment and socio-economic issues in the arts. In 1987, Gerd earned a diploma in Performance from Boston's Berklee College of Music after winning Berklee's prestigious Quincy Jones Award for arranging and composing, which granted him a full scholarship.
An acclaimed guitarist, composer, record producer, and music business entrepreneur with extensive know-how and hands-on expertise in internet music ventures, digital music copyright issues, and network economy-focused business models, Gerd is considered a visionary in defining the business perspectives of a new, web-based music economy.
